Island Stroke Support Network in P.E.I.

Provides meaningful connections for stroke survivors and their caregivers

March of Dimes Canada is pleased to offer the Island Stroke Support Network. Building on our After Stroke program, the Island Stroke Support Network complements P.E.I.’s existing stroke recovery framework. Islander stroke survivors and their caregivers can access one-on-one and group support, as well as an assistive technology borrowing program.

Each year, approximately 350 people will have a stroke in P.E.I. For those impacted by stroke, there can be many challenges on their path to recovery. Peer support programs are an important resource for fostering social connection and emotional support, and empowering people to rebuild their lives and achieve their goals after stroke.

What’s Included?

The Island Stroke Support Network provides:

• • One-on-one support
    Stroke survivors and their caregivers are connected with highly trained, caring volunteers who are also stroke survivors, for one-on-one virtual support.
  • Group support
    Stroke Support Clubs at select public libraries will allow stroke survivors and their caregivers to share their experiences and practical advice with one another.
  • Assistive technology
    Participants can borrow iPads outfitted with assistive technology, including programs to help with aphasia. Users will also have access to technical support from our Assistive Technology Specialists.
